Carl's 2017 Challenge

Carl is hoping to raise £2017 for the 2017 miles he'll be running in 2017! His brother, Daniel, has SMA - you can read more about why he's taking on this challenge for SMA Support UK here.

Middle Aged Men in Lycra (MAMIL)!

Martina and Glyn’s son Max had SMA Type 1 and sadly died in May 2016. Glyn and friends decided to form this stylish team to raise money in Max’s memory for Welsh children’s hospice Ty Hafan and SMA Support                                                       UK. Exclusive of Gift Aid, the team raised                                              around £2,500 with 30% of this donated to                                           SMA Support UK - a fantastic effort, thank you.                                     It just shows what you can do, whatever your                                       age and dress sense! 

Flower and Vegetable Sales

In memory of granddaughter Sophie who had SMA Type 1, Ernie and Joan raise hundreds of pounds each year from the sale of their allotment produce including sweet peas and an array of vegetables. On 4th September 2016 they held a Flower and Vegetable Show which                                     raised a whopping £1,014.00!

Shoesday 2015

Jay’s school took part in Shoesday 12th July and raised an incredible £280!

During the course of the day, Jay visited classes to talk to them about his condition and                                     answer any questions. A brilliant effort.

A Team Effort

Joe and Gia set up ‘Team Nelle’ in memory of their daughter who had SMA Type 1. They held fundraisers at their local store and schools and members of the team took part in an Ironman and other challenges. By July 2016 they had raised an amazing £25,000. A Summer Ball

Over 10 years, Jason and Laura Turk have raised more than £100,000 for SMA Support UK by holding an annual Summer Ball in memory of their daughter Isabel who had SMA Type 1. An absolutely incredible total.

Clever Use of Collection Tins

Morrisons Petrol Station in Stratford-upon-Avon has had a collection tin at their till for a number of years and by March 2016 had                                               raised a staggering £1,002.30 and since 2004                                       Parfetts Cash and Carry in Liverpool have had                                     one at a butty bar in the car park raising a                                             fantastic £1,126.85.

Christmas Jumper Day At Work

In memory of his son Teddy, who had SMA Type 1, Neil and friend Elena rallied the support of their colleagues at DMGT throughout the year with various fundraising events including wearing fantastically festive sweaters for Christmas Jumper Day for SMA.

From Abseils To Samosas

During their ten years of fundraising, Raj and Priti came up with a whole host of ideas for Rishi and Shiv’s Angel Fund. You can read more.

Guess How Many Sweets In The Jar 

During SMA Awareness Week 2015, Vicky ran a stall at her workplace in memory of her son Joshua who had SMA Type 1. She displayed leaflets about SMA as well as a ‘guess how                                           many sweets are in the jar’ game to raise                                             funds.

Fergus Footie Fives

In memory of his son Fergus who had SMARD, Steve has organised this football tournament over the past 10 years with his colleagues at work. His most recent tournament raised an incredible £500.

Bikes and BBQs

Each year, in memory of their son Daniel who had SMA Type 1, Alan and Rebecca organise a cycle ride and BBQ. Friends and family have also got involved in a half marathon and skydive as well as asking local businesses to take collection tins. By June 2015 their fund                                         had reached an astounding £15,000!

Coffee and Cake Day And More

In memory of Rachel’s son Edward who had SMA Type 1, she and friend Louisa have dedicated an inspirational amount of effort and time to promote and plan many events in their community raising over £11,000 by May 2015. £400 came from holding a Coffee and Cake                                         Day at their local Town Hall.

Sub-zero Husky Trail!

In memory of Matt’s niece Abigail who had SMA Type 1, he and friend Trevor set off sledding 250km (155 miles) across Lapland. Both of them gathered a huge amount of                                               support in their local area both from their family                                     and friends as well as with corporates and                                             raised a fantastic £11,006.76. A complete change from head shaving!

Carl decided to stop close shaving his head and grow his hair for one whole year to raise money in honour of his younger brother who has SMA. Carl raised a brilliant £1,597.08 through sponsorship.
