Middle Aged Men in Lycra (MAMIL) take on Cycling Challenge!
07 December 2016
Martina and Glyn’s son Max had SMA Type 1 and sadly died in May this year. Glyn and friends decided to form this stylish team to raise money in Max’s memory for Welsh children’s hospice Ty Hafan and SMA Support UK.
The team completed the cycling challenge from East Wales to West Wales in two days, embarking from the First Severn Crossing on Friday 8th September at 8.30am. They cycled towards Newport, Cardiff and Sully where they paid a visit to the staff and children at the hospice and then continued on to Llanelli where they finished off the 101 miles for the day. The following morning, they left Llanelli at 7am heading towards Carmarthen and then Haverfordwest. They reached the finish line in St Davids at 4.30pm to a big cheer from families and friends. Apart from sore bums and knees, they all arrived in good spirits and all in one piece having completed the total 171 miles trip from East to West.
Exclusive of Gift Aid, the team raised around £2,500 with 30% of this donated to SMA Support UK - a fantastic effort, thank you. It just shows what you can do, whatever your age and dress sense!
