Newlife #FixTheFour Campaign
29 November 2018
Newlife the Charity for Disabled children have launched a new campaign - #FixTheFour - and are calling on the government to help those children whose lives are at risk because they don’t have the specialist equipment they need.
Their report, 'Equipment Crisis for Disabled Children', highlights the major and unlawful failings surrounding the provision of equipment for disabled and terminally ill children. They identify the key barriers that are preventing these children from having the right kind of specialist equipment at the right time, and outline a four-point-plan to improve equipment services for disabled children and their families:
Fix 1: Cease the use of blanket bans for rationing equipment
Fix 2: Establish an emergency equipment response service
Fix 3: Introduce a maximum waiting time for equipment assessments across health and social care
Fix 4: Ensure every disabled child is counted
You can read the full report on their website, here.
Newlife have also commissioned leading barristers’ advice explaining what the law says about equipment services for disabled children throughout the UK. This advice features throughout their report and is available in full by country on their website through the above link.
